VCT Floor Care Tips

Caring for your Vinyl Composite Tile (VCT) is very important. Here are a few things you need to do to help maintain it:

• The floor should be stripped and waxed (nowadays it is not really wax but a floor polish) every year.
• You need to mop daily or as often as possible. Dirt and debris brought onto the floor from your shoes can scratch and discolor the finish.
• Always use a neutral floor cleaner on it. Alkaline and acid cleaners can damage or discolor the polish.

If you use the wrong cleaners and do not regularly strip and polish the floors, the following problems can occur.

• Soap and spills from drinks and food and other chemicals can eat through the wax
• The wax can get scratched and dull looking
• Your tiles may become stained, especially in bathrooms
• Tiles can crack and lift.
